Labasheeda Cycling

Labasheeda is a very scenic location on the northern banks of the Shannon Estuary. This is a very tranquil area of great natural beauty; the roadways are generally very quiet and ideally suited to all levels of cycling. You decide how far you want to cycle depending on your ability level. Complete one of our looped routes or just turn back and come home, whenever you feel like doing it!

Note that we have categorised the routes by level of difficulty, refer to the descriptions below.

  • Level 1: I am not used to any cycling or exercise at all.
  • Level 2: I go for the occasional cycle.
  • Level 3: I cycle regularly on flat terrain.
  • Level 4: I cycle regularly including mountainous terrain.
  • Level 5: I cycle regularly on varied terrain and take part in many cycling events per year.

Route 1: Slievedooley

Start at Labasheeda Cross; take the ‘Pole Road’ by turning right at ‘Beds of Silk Glamping’. Cycle for 3km then turn right, downhill to Slievedooley. After 1km, decide which road you want to take to get to the Coast Road, check the map.

Route 2: Aillroe

Start at Labasheeda Cross; take the ‘Pole Road’ by turning right at ‘Beds of Silk Glamping’. Cycle for 5km then turn right, downhill to Aillroe. After 1km decide which road you want to take to get to the Coast Road, check the map.

Route 3: Kildysart

 

Start at Labasheeda Cross; take the ‘Pole Road’ by turning right at ‘Beds of Silk Glamping’.

Cycle to Kildysart for 11km then turn right, returning to Labasheeda along the R473 coast road.

After 2km why not cycle down to Inishmurray Pier, check the map.

Alternative Route 3: Kildysart and Back

 

Start at Labasheeda Cross; cycle the R473 coast road to Kildysart, return along the same route.

Route 4: Labasheeda Peninsula

 

Start at Labasheeda Cross; cycle down through the village, pass the Church and Community Centre and turn left at the Lower Cross.

After 5km turn right onto ‘The New Line’, (a famine road). At Kilkerrin Cross (1km) decide whether to turn left to ‘The Battery Point’ (2km) or right, back to the village, check the map.
